At the origin of the Osaka 70 chair’s design was the premise of the absolute need for its rapid transport by air to Japan, as part of Portugal’s participation in the 1970 World Expo in Osaka.
The chair was part of a project, which also involved Daciano da Costa, for an outdoor area adjacent to the Portuguese Pavilion, occupied by the National Coffee Institute, for which António Garcia was responsible for the Equipment Design. Intended to furnish the Café de Angola space, it was designed so that its components could be packed while disassembled, enabling both efficient transport and ease of assembly.
